1860 Fireworks Drive Man Crazy

By 1860, the population reached 168,000. The enthusiasm for fireworks grew, along with the “explosion of crackers, fireworks and firearms.” The celebration became so loud that one man was driven crazy by the noise, the Daily Picayune reported on January 6.
