cayoodles

In New Orleans we call dogs of mixed heretage "cayoodles". I don't know why. Probably a French or Spanish term that has been twisted by the native tounge.

My daughter, a senior at Loyola, did a research paper on the Italians in New Orleans. Being of mostly Sicilian decent she found this fascinating. She learned that Sicilians were "recuited" to come work on the farms of southern Lousiana--being promised streets paved in gold along with other ammenities.

My daughter and son (as am I) are cayoodles. They have in their blood a large portion of Italian, German & French, a little bit of Spanish, and pinches of English and Scotch-Irish thrown in for good measure. Like a great creole recipe, no one can duplicate it exactly. And I'm thinking that's what makes us so unique here in New Orleans. We are a great gumbo of all sorts of people.
