1952 De La Salle High School is Officially Dedicated

De La Salle High School is named for St. John Baptist De La Salle, the
founder of the Brothers of Christian Schools. John Baptist was born on April 30,
1651 and before his death in 1719, he had founded and established a creative
Christian school system. De La Salle High School began in 1949 with a freshmen
class of 74 boys. On March 2, 1952, the school was officially dedicated by his
excellency, Archbishop Joseph Francis Rummel of New Orleans. In 1992, De La
Salle welcomed young women into its student body.
