Dat's right. Robert Dafford of Lafayette was commissioned to create the stunning trompe l’oeil, a 150-foot, 16 story exterior mural of a clarinet and numerous life-size street scenes that depict actual buildings and faces associated with the area’s heyday.

Utilizing research assistance from Don Marquis, curator of the New Orleans Jazz Club Collections of the Louisiana State Museum, and Dr.Michael White of Xavier University, Dafford successfully re-created the spirit and excitement of the actual birthplace of jazz in New Orleans while maintaining strict superrealism in his depiction of a pre-1920 Selmer“Albert System” clarinet. His street scenes preserve actual buildings and faces associated with the area’s hey-day—including Louis Armstrong,Buddy Bolden, Joe “King” Oliver,Kid Ory, Sidney Bechet, and dozens more...

aw shucks! Wouldn't ya know it! I coulda got dis one too! I know da lady dat oahns dat hotel! And I got me a clarinet jus lahk dat! It's a Selmer. I usta play clarinet long ago. Ah still got it, but it needs a ovahall. Anybody got a good expeeriants wit getting a clarinet ovahalled by somebody good? Ah doan wanna bring it ta jus anybody. Mr. Lake, ah love dat picchah too..... dat's real New Orluns!
