The Beverly

The Beverly's past is long and historic. Louis D'Aquin and Pierre Francois Volant de La Barre acquired the land in 1834 and built The Whitehall Plantation. This beautiful old home later became a gambling hall called "Suburban Gardens". During the 1930s under the ownership of Phil Kastel it was renamed the "Beverly Club" and hosted big name entertainment. In 1944, Frank Costello, Philip Kastel, and Meyer Lansky brought Carlos Marcello into the partnership. In later years (1974-83) it was the "Beverly Dinner Playhouse". A fire destroyed the building in 1983. It is now part of the Ochsner Hospital complex. Photo credit: http://members.cox.net/vivelavie/statenotheatre2.html
